This quarantine days are one of the best days to spend time with your family and Siblings. During our daily life, we rarely used to get time to play our favorite games. This is the time when everyone can play indoor games with their family or siblings or friends. Myself being an International student and living together with my 5 other friends, we try to come up with indoor games to play every other night. Cards, Monopoly are some of our favorites , but we also had played indoor cricket with sponge ball and cardboard bat. These are some of the things that are making my quarantine days real better.

PANIPURI – Are you guys aware of what it is?? If you are food junkie and you want to know about various authentic food, you have landed on the right page. I am going to talk about one of the best street food of India in this post.

Panipuri- A word itself is an emotion for people of India. Whether it is a boy, girl, youngster, or an elderly person everyone is a fan of panipuri. It is a food that gives you the satisfaction of spiciness, tanginess, and yuminess all together. Panipuri is like India’s Tim Hortons- A go to place at anytime.

Recipe

Panipuri is basically a combination of various items. The round shaped puri is made of flour and is rolled and deep fried in oil. The pani(water) is made of mint ,coriander, some chilies, lemon and some spices. Then there is a stuffing made of peas and potatoes. The stuffing is filled up in the puri and is served with the pani. Panipuri has various different names all across India. It is also known as Puchka, Golgappe, Pakodi, Pani k patashe, Gupchup and many more. It though have various different names all over India, but it gives the same feel and emotion to every person.

Story

Linking to panipuri, I have many stories to share with you guys but let me tell you the best one. Being an International student in Canada, it is hard to find options for authentic Indian street food. During my previous course at Humber North, once we were going through a really hectic week due to assignment submissions and exams. During that time we used to be in college for more than 12 hours and we were pretty much bored with all the cafeteria food. We all friends were craving for some Indian food to get us out of the stress. We decided to do a get-together and make some panipuri. Everyone was on board with the plan and some of our Non- Indian friends also joined us. The people got divided into groups and took care of one of each responsibilities. Some of them went to Indian store to get the ingredients and other went home and started preparing it. Once the panipuri got ready we all sat together and and served it in the plates. There was some Indian music going on in the background. Everyone looked excited and happy. As I ate panipuri, it felt like I was giving a treat to my tummy after a long time. All the stress of exams and submissions was forgotten at the moment and the happiness of eating panipuri was enjoyed by everyone in the room. The fun part was to teach our non- Indian friends the ways to eat panipuri and making them enjoy our Indian street food. A mini competition of who can eat maximum Panipiuri in 2 mins was also held. That night felt like a party night to me. It reminded me of all the fun I used to have back in India. That night, that people made me feel like family away from home.

Thinking of this day back today makes me imagine about How amazingly food helps you to connect with people!! I hope reading this story remind you of something similar happened in your life.

Who Am I??

Hi!! I am Shreya! Thanks for Visiting!

I am a Computer Engineer and a certified Project Manager. I am also the pedestrian on the street that is constantly on a hunt for a new food place to eat and the morning commuter lost in a podcast concerning the city’s bustling food centers.

I am basically obsessed with food and its ability to unite people. I personally believe that food plays an important role in everyone’s life. This obsession started at a very early age of six while helping my grandmother prepare Laddus, to distribute among relatives during Diwali celebrations. My relatives hugged us and their faces lit up as they took a bite of the Laddus. This early childhood memory has inspired me to share my love for food and a story connected to it.

I currently live in Canada. I am an international student struggling everyday with working part time and going to school. Living away from my family has made me realized how hard life can be. I am a girl whose first thought in the morning is “FOOD”. Being a food lover I like to explore new places but also I am someone who love to cook some traditional Indian food at home. I believe that there is always a unique story attached to every meal I take and I wish to share it.

I hope my stories about Food inspire you to discover something new every time.
